Metro Cebu residents who didn’t want to dent their budgets for a four-day Holy Week vacation in the province or elsewhere in the country opted to spend Easter Sunday at the Mandaue Bridge Park.

Among them was 52-year-old Generoso Pobadora, a resident of barangay Alang-Alang, Mandaue City who brought his family for a picnic and a swim at the Mandaue Bridge Park.

“Kada kasaulogan sa kabanhawan sa Ginoo naa gyud mi diri mag outing kauban sa pamilya (we celebrate Easter Sunday with a family outing here),” Pobadora said.

Pobadora’s family sat on a mat and talked as they ate and later swam in the nearby waters, taking care not to go to a muddy seabed near the mouth of the Butuanon River.

Pobadora said it cost too much money to go to resorts in either Lapu-Lapu City or in the northern towns of Cebu.

The Mandaue Bridge Park below the Marcelo Fernan Bridge is crowded with picnickers from Mandaue City and nearby areas.

About 14 police personnel from the Mandaue City Police Office monitor the area.
