CEBU CITY, Philippines — Cebuanos can expect fair weather until Christmas day, the state weather bureau based in Mactan said on Tuesday.

Engineer Al Quiblat, chief of Pagasa-Mactan, said in a news forum yesterday that in Central Visayas, sunny periods and cloudy skies with possible light rains will prevail until Christmas or until Monday, December 25.

Moreover, Quiblat said that based on Pagasa’s Threat Potential Forecast, they had not seen any likelihood of a tropical cyclone entering the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) until December 31.

If there are occasional rains, Quiblat said that these would be due to localized thunderstorm or shear line which is the convergence of northeast monsoon (cold winds) and easterlies (warm winds) from the Pacific Ocean.

“We still experience the surge of northeast monsoon or hanging Amihan. Ang kaning hangina, gikan ni sa mainland China and ngayon nagsugod ma’g winter ang mainland China so ma-experience nato [ang cold air] pero on and off,” he said.

As the northeast monsoon gets stronger, the public can experience cold air and lower temperature from 26 to 29 degrees celsius which is below the average temperature recorded by Pagasa for the past 30 years where they got 30 to 31 degrees celsius in December due to northeast monsoon and easterlies.

Fair weather

Today, December 20, the temperature will range from 25 to 31 degrees Celsius and for the next four days or until December 25, it will be from 24 to 32 degrees Celsius, according to Jhomer Eclarino, Pagasa-Mactan weather specialist.

Eclarino, in a separate interview with CDN on Wednesday, added that the low-pressure area is expected to exit PAR tonight or tomorrow, December 21.

He added that Metro Cebu will experience a fair weather until Christmas.

Meanwhile, the condition of the coastal waters is from slight to moderate.

Pagasa advised the public to regularly check Pagasa’s website and social media pages for the daily and weekly weather forecast.
