Vehicles, guns sought for Apec, IEC security

THE Cebu City Police Office has asked for P100.2 million worth of new vehicles and  P14.1 million worth of rifles, bulletproof vests and ammunition as part of  security preparations for two major international events.

“The procurement of mobility for police office is very important in preparation for the upcoming International Eucharistic Congress (IEC) and Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) Summit next year,” acting Cebu City police chief Supt. Marciano Agas Batiancela Jr. said in a letter to Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama.

Councilor Dave Tumulak, head of the peace and order program,  said they will review the request.

The purchases will be charged to the city’s peace and order budget for this year.

Under the program, P28 million was approved for police equipment and P108 million budget was approved for motor vehicle outlays in the city.
