Two former Capitol employees and two police officers who served as bodyguards of former governor, now 3rd District congresswoman Gwendolyn Garcia, have not yet returned the Capitol-owned firearms issued to them.
Maritess Redoble, property manager of the Provincial General Services Office (PGSO), said demand letters were sent out to former executive assistant Edwin Mixdon and former Provincial Treasurer Roy Salubre to return the guns.
Mixdon was issued a .9mm machine pistol worth P80,000.
Salubre was listed as holding on to a Glock 9 pistol worth P38,624.
Redoble said if the guns are not returned, both former employees cannot claim their remaining salary and benefits of about P500,000 each.
But if they inform the PGSO that they can no longer produce the firearms, the value of the guns will be deducted from their unclaimed salary and benefits.
Two police officers failed to return .9mm pistols – P02 Vilma Degamo and P03 Nerio Gonzales.
Degamo who is now assigned at the Cordova Police Station said she lost the .9mm pistol worth P23,750 which was stolen by her brother who is a drug user.
She said she was willing to pay for the stolen firearm but she is still saving up for it. Gonzales, who is now with the Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO), said he lost his .9mm pistol firearm when he left it inside the utility box of his motorcycle.
Redoble said Gonzales went to their office months ago and offered compensation for the lost gun but it was not accepted as they still have to obtain the Commission on Audit’s opinion on the matter.
COA wrote to PGSO saying that the Capitol can accept the payment but has to inform the Police Regional Office (PRO-7) about it for the record.
Redoble said they already sent a written statement to the PRO-7.
The PGSO has sent demand letters to ex-Capitol officials but there was no response yet from them.
