Kadaugan food fest draws 5,000 visitors
About 5,000 visited the 41 food booths at the Liberty Shrine since Friday for the week-long food festival held as part of the calendar for the annual Kadaugan sa Mactan (Victory in Mactan).
The food booths set up by hotels and restaurants sold culinary fare at prices ranging from P5 to P99.
“These hotels and resorts responded to our call and offered their services in the spirit of uniting with us in the celebration of the great hero Datu Lapu-Lapu,” Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Paz Radaza said.
The Kadaugan sa Mactan which is celebrated every 27th of April began as a re-enactment initiated by former Customs collector David “Boy” Odilao dubbed as “Bahug-Bahug sa Mactan” in 1979.
Radaza said the Kadaugan sa Mactan is the biggest event in Cebu province next to Sinulog. The food festival starts at 5:30 p.m. and ends on 10:30 p.m.
Last Friday’s opening offered live bands, fireworks and a performance by comedienne Giselle Sanchez.
