The Mandaue City Police Office (MCPO) conducted a coordination meeting with security managers from various business establishments in the city to discuss strategies for minimizing or eradicating shoplifting.

On Thursday, Feb. 1, security managers from malls and grocery stores were the first to be called. MCPO will meet with security personnel assigned to financial institutions and homeowners later.

During the meeting, the MCPO presented the updated crime statistics for the entire year of 2023, revealing that theft had the highest number of cases at 66.

Security managers were also asked to share their security plans to deter shoplifting in their establishments.

MCPO Spokesperson, Police Lieutenant Colonel Mercy Villaro, mentioned that a few cases of shoplifting were noted last year.

Villaro added that they also encouraged the security managers to ensure that someone is assigned to monitor their closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras.

The spokesperson emphasized that business establishments in the city, especially larger ones, are required to install CCTV cameras.

Villaro stressed that the crime rate in 2023, with only 4,194 crimes, was lower compared to 2022, which had 4,420 crimes.

“Compared to 2022 niubos ang kaso sa mga shoplifting and other crimes against property cases sa mga malls pero atoa manggud nga goal is zero incident,” said Villaro.
