6 medical firms get permit for waste collection

By: Andrea D. Lim May 02,2015 - 01:04 AM

The Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) has issued transport permits on Thursday for the disposal of wastes to six medical establishments.

This means the Pollution Abatement Systems Specialist Inc. (PASSI) may start collecting, treating, and disposing of infectious wastes from the Visayas Community Hospital, St. Vincent General Hospital, Sacred Heart Hospital, St. Anthony

Mother and Child Hospital, Puericulture Maternity Clinic, and Supercare Clinic.

“PASSI may start collecting wastes from these hospitals now, because they were able to comply with the requirements,” said EMB-7 director William Cuñado.

However, other hospitals and clinics were not able to give us their self-monitoring reports, which is one of the requirements for the transport permit according to PASSI pollution officer Cleofe Cortes.

EMB has issued discharge permit and permit to operate to PASSI to continue its operations. PASSI started its operations yesterday morning.
