Capitol workers reminded: Wi-Fi not to be abused

The Cebu Provincial Board (PB) reminded provincial government employees not to use the Wi-Fi available in their office for personal use.

In a resolution passed last Monday, PB member Arleigh Jay Sitoy said they noticed that employees have become less efficient since they spend most of their time surfing the Web during office hours.

“It is sad to note that some employees and even public officials use the Wi-Fi connections for their own personal satisfaction and not for the advantage of their clients,” he said.

Sitoy said the Wi-Fi was  installed to help to speed up research, office work and communications between the Capitol and the local governments within the province’s jurisdiction.

Employees caught using Wi-Fi installed by their LGUs will be held administratively liable, Sitoy said.

“The misuse of such resource which is paid through government funds taken from hard earned taxes of the people could spell administrative liability to government employees or elected officials who abuse the freedom to use the same,” a part of the resolution read.
