Mandaue City’s Jhon Kenneth Tenepre led the cast of the opening day winners of the 2015 Palawan Pawnshop-Palawan Express Pera Padala Regional Age Group Visayas Leg 4 tennis tournament to advance into the next round at the Consolacion Tennis Club in Laray, Consolacion, northern Cebu.

The 5th-seeded Tenepre opened his campaign in the 12-Under boys’ division of the Philta Group 2 tournament with a convincing straight sets win, 6-2, 6-0, over Maniel Plapeno to book a seat in the second  round.

In the distaff side, Phel Hazel Coderos also advanced into the next round after she overpowered Mariel Canete, 6-1, 6-4, to book a showdown against either Febbie Jane Abayan or Ruchelle Ivy Ebales, who were still slugging it out at press time.

In the 10-Under Unisex division of the event, which attracted close to 300 players coming from all over the country, no.1-seed Khenz Justiniani booked a berth in the next round after shutting down his unseeded foe, Laurenze Palanas, 4-0, 4-0.

Second-seed Raymund Benedict Goco also barged into the next round after tallying a 4-0, 4-1, victory over Joedieper Ian Lim, while third-seed Nicholas Allain Ocat preserved the natural order of chronology by also advancing into the second round with a 4-1, 4-0 win versus Elton Dave Danlag.

Also scoring a win in the youngest age group category are fourth-seed Josh Abad, who eliminated Axiel Bartolabac, 4-0, 4-1, while seventh-seed Jonathan Mitch Largo secured a seat in the next round with a default win over Glenn Andre Valencia.

Most games in the higher age groups in both boys and girls’ categories will take place today with Cebu City’s top bet Jan Godfrey Seno scheduled to play two matches in two different age group categories.
