BATCH 1980s/90s-Koi Herbal survived Batch 2007-Chef Chang by the skin of its teeth, 56-55, to earn a piece of second spot in the Eastern College Alumni Basketball Association (Cecaba) 14th Dr. Chen Lieh Fu Memorial Cup last Saturday at the CEC Gym.

Batch 1980s/90s tied Batch 1996/Blakeley’s Motorcare at second place with similar 8-3 (win-loss) records, trailing a league-leading Batch 1999-BMC Hospital Systems/ Hainanese Delights, which has yet to lose after 12 starts.

Paul Cabellon led the way for Batch 1980s/90s with 19 points, seven rebounds, three steals and three assists.

Stephen Tan, Joel Chan and John Palanca Avalon backed Cabellon with eight points apiece.

Tan also had 10 rebounds, four assists and four steals.

Juan Carlo Espada and Robin Chu scored 16 points each, while Paolo Revil contributed 10 for Batch 2007, which slumped to its fourth loss in 10 games.

In the other game, Batch 1988-Dewfoam leaned on its foursome fearsome of Robert Lim, Erwin Yu, Rey Kenneth Ng and Ricky Yu to repulse Batch 1986/90s/2000s, 66-57.

Lim fired 17 points, Erwin finshed with 14 markers, Ng scored 11, while Ricky piled up 15 rebounds, eights assists, three steals and three blocks as Batch 1988 listed its sixth victory in 10 games.

Batch 1986/90s/2000s tasted its fifth loss in 11 outings, putting to waste the double-double performance of Randy Sypongco, who tallied 14 points, 12 rebounds, two blocks, two assists and one steal. Aljune Areja and Cris Jake Alvez added 14 and 12, respectively. /EDITORIAL ASSISTANT CALVIN D. CORDOVA
