College scholarship for GSIS members’ dependents

May 11,2015 - 02:37 PM

The Dumaguete branch of Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) is accepting applications for their college scholarship program this coming school year.

Branch manager Mercedes Enriquez said the scholarship program caters to incoming college freshmen who are dependents of GSIS members.

Government employees with salary grades 24 and below can nominate their children to the scholarship grant, which has 200 slots available nationwide.

The scholar may take a four- or five-year course but must meet the scholastic requirements set by the Commission on Higher Education.

Enriquez said at least 20 scholarship slots are for dependents of persons with disabilities (PWDs), indigenous peoples (IPs), and single parents.

Deserving and underprivileged dependents of PWDs, IPs and single parents under Republic Act 8972 (Solo Parents Welfare Act of 2000) now have the chance to avail of the educational college grant.

Enriquez said the scholarship program is open to all GSIS members who have paid premium contributions for the last six months; are regular government employees for at least three years.

The GSIS Dumaguete Branch will accept applications with complete requirements until June 11.

Application forms may be obtained from the branch office or downloaded from website www.gsis.gov.ph and submitted to Johnadel Leong of GSIS Dumaguete branch.
