USC Warriors dump UC Webmasters in Cebu City Mayor’s Cup tourney
BANKING on the sterling performances of Nicolas Kyle Magat and Cameroonian import Shooster Olago, the University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors handily defeated the University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters, 102-80, yesterday in the Cebu City Mayor’s Cup Invitational Basketball Tournament at the Cebu City Sports Institute in barangay Sawang Calero.
Magat came up with a solid all-around game, tallying 16 points, 19 rebounds and 18 assists. Olago was equally impressive as he raked in 32 points and dished off 25 assists.
USC ended the first quarter with a slim 19-14 lead before breaking the game wide open in the next three quarters.
Charles Pepito also made his presence felt for USC as he had a string of blocks, while also grabbing the needed rebounds that allowed the Warriors to set the tempo of the game.
The Warriors shoot for another win today when they play the visiting Malaysian team at the Talisay City Sports Complex.
Earl Montilla finished with 11 points for UC, Darrell Shane Menina added 10.
The duo, however, couldn’t save the Webmasters from absorbing the 22-point beating after starting the tournament with a win over the Malaysian squad.
