One Cebu ‘seriously’ thinking of Gwen for governor again

Is Gwen Garcia running for her old post as Cebu governor?

The question was raised after Gov. Hilario Davide III announced last month his bid to seek re-election and former governor Emilio “Lito” Osmeña said that he, too, would seek the provincial vote in 2016.

Garcia’s party One Cebu and brother Pablo John Garcia, said they were “seriously” thinking about it.

“One Cebu has not firmed up its plan for 2016. But I can say that fielding the undefeated, three-term Governor Gwen remains an option being seriously considered. I’m speaking as secretary-general of the One Cebu party,” said Pablo John, who ran in 2013 to fill his sister’s vacant post but lost to Davide.

“As to the declared candidacy of former governor Lito Osmeña, since we’ve been asked about it, I think it is interesting because in the past two elections, Lito O was listed as Davide’s number one financial contributor. So his running against Davide speaks volumes.”

Asked if they are considering Rep. Benhur Salimbangon or businessman Glenn Soco as possible runningmates of Gwen, Pablo John said, “They are good candidates but I’m afraid we haven’t gotten that far.”

“Of course, we will have to ask Gwen because she has yet to decide on her political future.”
