The Rain or Shine Elasto Painters finally broke into the win column after they tripped the GlobalPort Batang Pier, 119-112, last Thursday night in an overseas game of the 40th PBA Governors’ Cup at the Al Shabab Club in Dubai, UAE.

Import Wendell McKines posted 28 points and 13 rebounds, while Cebuano big man JR Quiñahan added 24 markers as the Elasto Painters salvaged win number one after starting the tournament with back-to-back losses.

Beau Belga and Gabe Norwood each had 12 points for the Elasto Painters, who used a balanced attack to survive the career-game of GlobalPort’s Terrence Romeo.

Romeo erupted with 40 points, while new import Jarrid Famous had 26 points and 16 rebounds. The duo, however, failed to save the Batang Pier from absorbing a second straight defeat after starting the tournament with three straight wins.

Asian import Omar Krayem scattered 24 points for GlobalPort, which just shot 38 percent from the field against Rain or Shine’s 55 percent clip.

Romeo also had  nine rebounds, three assists and three steals but he was the lone local to score in double figures for the Batang Pier.

Quiñahan and Belga spearheaded Rain or Shine’s fiery first half with the two big men flashing terrific outside shooting.

Quiñahan fired four triples, while Belga made three, helping Rain or Shine erect a 66-49 lead at the half.
