Cebuano bowlers ready for action in 28th SEAG

Two Cebuano bowlers will be part of the Philippine bowling team that will be competing in the 28th Southeast Asian Games, which officially starts tomorrow in Singapore.
Jomar Roland Jumapao and Marie Alexis Sy will join the 12-man bowling team composed of some of the best in the country.
Together with Jumapao in the men’s team are Jonas Jason Baltazar, Kenneth Chua, Kevin Oliver Cu, Enrico Lorenzo Hernandez and Frederick Ong.
In the women’s side, the 23-year-old Sy will team up with Maria Lourdes Arles, Liza Clutario, Maria Liza del Rosario, Marian Lara Posadas, and Krizziah Lyn Tabora.
Sy is now in her seventh year as a member of the Philippine National Women’s Bowling Team. She competed in the 2013 World Championships held in Las Vegas and came in 15th over 100 participants.
Jumapao, a 25-year-old Physical Therapy graduate of Velez College, said he is ready for the tough competition in the biennial event.

“We had intense training for the past three weeks. So far we are doing well,” Jumapao said. “We have a chance of getting a medal.”
Jumapao won the gold medal in the 11th Asian Schools Tenpin Bowling Championship in Hongkong last 2008. He is his second year with the national team.
“We will do our very best to win a medal for our country. We also need support,” he added
CEBUANO IN MEDAL ROUND
Meanwhile, Cebuano Richard Gonzales demolished Vietnam’s Tuan Quynh Tran, 11-3, 11-6, 15-13, yesterday that earned him a spot in the medal round of the men’s table tennis singles.
Just like his earlier conquest against a highly favored Indonesian foe, Gonzales was on the defensive end again and simply watched Tran fall in a maze of errors.
Though the Vietnamese came close in the third set after pushing the 44-year-old to the edge, a pair of fatal errors eventually drove him off the cliff.
“I was patient throughout and waited for him to commit mistakes,’’ said Gonzales after claiming his third straight win.
It was worth the wait for Gonzales after Tran’s drive sailed way past the back of the table at match point.
Gonzales faces Malaysian Muhamad Muhamad today with another victory assuring him the bronze medal at the Singapore Indoor Stadium. /with a report from the inquirer
