10-year-old Vidal wins two golds in PKL event

Team Hayashi-ha Karatedo’s youthful karateka Rafael Vidal showed off his skills in last Sunday’s 21st PKL Founding Anniversary Nishimura Cup-International Karatedo Championships held in Alabang, Muntinlupa City.

The 10-year-old Vidal, who was accompanied by his father Reynan Vidal, finished the international tournament with two gold medals, dominating the 10-11 years old kumite and open kata events.

The tournament was participated by 22 teams, some coming from Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Africa and India.

According to Reynan Vidal, his son defeated an Indonesian in the gold medal round. Before that, he won over a Singaporean foe to rule the kata (form) event.

Last Saturday, Vidal won three gold medals in Dumaguete City’s Philippine Karatedo League (PKL) Visayas Hayashi-ha Shitoryukai Open Championships at the Robinson’s Dumaguete in the same events before flying to Manila.

His teammates collected 11 gold medals in Dumaguete, earning them the top spot in the tournament. The team harvested a total of 14 gold medals in the tournament.
