The Cebu City Bantay Dagat Task Force seized about  1,200 kilos of fish from Zamboanga City. The catch was suspected to have been  caught through dynamite fishing.

Ramon Ortiz Sr., Cebu City Bantay Dagat director, said they confiscated  assorted fish stored in ice.  The fish included  Mol-Mol, Anduhaw, Mamsa, Danggit and Kitong estimated to worth P234,000.

The container was placed inside a blue wooden box  transported by M/V Zamboanga Ferry which arrived at 3 p.m. yesterday at Pier 2.

Ortiz said he got a tip from an asset in Zamboanga City that dynamited fish would  arrive in Pier 2.

A  team of the Cebu City Bantay Dagat Task Force including Fish Warden Antonio Tahir went to the port area to intercept the shipment.

Ortiz said they waited for more than two hours but no one came forward to claim the box of fish.

A representative of  the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources will have to  examine the confiscated fish to determine if these were indeed caught using dynamite.

The shipper and the recipient in Cebu City remain unidentified.

Crew members of the passenger vessel could not also give details about the shipment.

The Cebu City Bantay Dagat Task Force will donate the confiscated fish catch to charitable institutions as a matter of policy.
