BATCH 2007-Chef Chang and Batch 1995-La Nueva Pharmacy bucked tremendous pressure to prevail in separate do-or-die games last Thursday in the Cebu Eastern College Alumni Basketball Association (Cecaba) 14th Dr. Chen Lieh Fu Memorial Cup at the CEC Gym.

The fifth-ranked Batch 2007 utilized its twice-to-beat edge to the hilt and downed eighth-seed Batch 1988-Dewfoam, 64-50, while seventh-seed Batch 1995 completed a huge upset by eliminating the twice-to-beat and sixth-ranked Batch 1986/1990s/2000s, 63-61.

Recovering from its 62-69 loss in their first meeting, Batch 2007 got 17 points from Juan Carlos Espada and 12 markers each from Raymark Ong and Paolo Revil.

In the second phase of the quarterfinals, Batch 2007 will play the winner in last night’s do-or-die game between ninth-seed Batch 1998-Kaking and fourth-ranked Batch 1996-Blakeley’s Motorcare.

Ricky Yu posted 17 points and Gregorio Aguilar had 12 for Batch 1988, which failed to duplicate its 69-62 win last Tuesday.

Batch 1995, on the other hand, succeeded in overhauling a twice-to-win disadvantage behind the 26-point performance of Joseph James Yu. Donald Anthony Ting added 12 points for Batch 1995, which beat the same Batch 1986/1990s/2000s squad in their initial encounter, 71-65.

Up next for Batch 1995 is Batch 1980s/1990s/2011-Koi Herbal.

Randy Sypongco paced the losing team with 17 points, while Sherwin So, Ranier Chu and Aljhune Areja added 14, 12 and 10, respectively.
