The San Miguel Beermen continued their rampaging run as they stretched their winning streak to eight win with an easy 115-83 dismantling of expansion team Blackwater Elite last night in the 40th PBA Governors’ Cup at the Araneta Coliseum.

Arizona Reid came up with his first-ever triple double in the league, leading the streaking Beermen with 39 points, 12 assists and 10 rebounds.

San Miguel moved up to solo first place with its eighth win in 10 games, breaking free from the Alaska Aces, who have seven wins and two losses.

The blowout win allowed the Beermen to clinch a twice-to-beat edge in the quarterfinal round.

Alaska and San Miguel  are set to face each other in this Saturday in an out-of-town game in Panabo City.

“Maraming nagsasabi we don’t need this win but I cannot stop the players,” said SMB head coach Leo Austria. “They want to play, they want to be in a good momentum.”

The Beermen actually started the tournament with two straight defeats before getting into groove.

“We’re not after sa streak. Basta every game is very important for us. We want to develop that kind of habit. Kaya I address them

na every day we should keep learning, we should keep improving, na dapat ascending ang flight namin,” added Austria.

Reid, a two-time Best Import awardee, helped the Beermen further break the game wide open when he scored 10 points in in 20-4 run that saw the Beermen surged to a commanding 109-80 lead with 2:21 left.

Providing a strong local support were June Mar Fajardo, who canned 20 points, and Marcio Lassiter, who fired  17 points on 5-for-7 shooting from the three-point land.

Ronald Tubid was the third San Miguel in twin digits with 13.

While the Beermen continued to rise, the Elite couldn’t arrest their slide as they have lost their last five games to drop to 1-8 (win-loss).

It marked the third straight conference that Blackwater failed to reach the playoffs in what has been a dismal maiden campaign.

Marcus Cousin led the Elite with 25 points and 16 rebounds.
