Lapu-Lapu city’s longest boodle fight
A total of 125 tables laden with breakfast food in the Lapu-Lapu City Hall grounds was a communal feast for yesterday’s celebration of the city’s 54th charter day anniversary.
The ‘boodle fight” stretched about 300 meters, the longest seen in the city.
Hundreds of kilos of rice, hotdogs, pancit (noodles), sardines and scrambled eggs were prepared at dawn for the special meal which cost about P400,000.
Close to 5,000 people mostly government employees of Lapu-Lapu City attended the celebration. They ate with gusto with hands wrapped in plastic gloves.
A program included song and dance numbers performed by students from different elementary and high schools in the city.
“We’ve made our city grow faster. We’ve increased tourism activities. We’ve provided inclusive growth and we’ve brought back investors’ confidence,” said a proud Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Paz Radaza.
She thanked everyone for the hard work in helping achieve the city’s goals.
This year, Lapu-Lapu City received the Seal of Good Governance for 2014 from the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG).
Last week, the city received another award from the Department of Finance of (DOF) for having the highest growth rate in locally sourced income from 2012-2014 among the 16 cities in Central Visayas.
Radaza commended the efforts of City Treasurer Elenita Catagcatag and the treasury department.
“When I set foot in City Hall five years ago, I vowed to serve our people by providing them no less than good governance and until today, I have kept that promise. I will never allow anybody to destroy transparency and accountability -the cornerstone of good governance that I have built together with all of you, my fellow workers in government,” she said.
