Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group executives yesterday said Radisson Blu Hotel is well-prepared for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meetings starting August.

Paul Moxness, Carlson Rezidor vice president for corporate safety and security, said they were happy with the preparations.

“The hotel is in very good hands. The hotel can take care of itself,” he said.

He said the hotel management is in constant dialog with several agencies, including the Department of Health, Bureau of Fire Protection, and the Philippine National Police.

“The agencies have been very helpful and have been in and out of the hotel multiple times,” said Nishan Silva, general manager of Radisson Blu Hotel.

He added that the government agencies have been strengthening and streamlining the systems in place in the hotel. DOH has conducted emergency evacuation training with the staff in case of accidents.

In order to better serve the APEC delegates and to strengthen the Radisson team, Silva said they will be increasing the number of staff they have for the event. At least 3,200 delegates are expected for the Senior Officials’ Meeting and related meetings on August 22 to September 6.

Topnotch food and beverage (F&B) services will be available to the delegates, he added.

The hotel will also be featuring Cebuano cuisine cooked with a contemporary twist, courtesy of innovations made by the Radisson chefs.

Radisson Blu has been contacting its “sister hotels” in Davao and will be bringing to Cebu some of the expertise from there.

Radisson Blu will be the lead hotel for the APEC meetings and the most number of delegates will be staying there, said Silva.

The hotel has 400 guest rooms available for the delegates, he added. Several reservations have already been made.

Moxness said security is the number one challenge of the establishment. Any single employee has the opportunity to raise or lower the security of the hotel, he said.

He said he has briefed more than 200 staff and personnel on security preparations.

“We’re putting out all the stops,” he added.

Meanwhile, power supply was a major concern, but the hotel executives said they have been assured this will not be a problem during the meetings.
