Mika Marie Desiderio of barangay Yati, Liloan town in Cebu never wavered in her belief that she would pass the May 2015 Nursing Licensure Examinations.

The 20-year-old nursing graduate of Velez College was rewarded for her faith and hard work with an 8th-place finish in the top 10 of the nursing board exams, securing an 84.4 percent rating.

She was given a link by her classmate, Paolo Julian Tabañag, on the results of the exams on Facebook and she found her name in the top 10.

Though she graduated with no honors, Desiderio finished high school with honors in La Consolacion College-Liloan.

She also graduated with honors at the Colegio de San Jose-Recoletos in Cebu City.

“I had to wake up really early to attend the review. And I was usually tired when I got home that I didn’t have the energy to study anymore,” Desiderio said.

Her 43-year-old father, Ferdinand B. Desiderio, works as a store manager at SM Appliance in Consolacion town while her 44-year-old mother, Yvonne S. Desiderio is a homemaker.

Desiderio’s brother Merwin John S. Desiderio is in his first year of college.

She said her parents, especially her father, encouraged her to take up nursing.  She enrolled at St. Louis Review Center located at  Don Mariano Cui St., Cebu City.

The review lasted for two months. She was part of the second batch of the review which started  last March 30.

“I started reviewing last April 6 and I review my notes at home,” she said.

Desiderio said she and her family attended Mass in 11 churches after the exams to pray that she not only pass but land in the top 10.

She is thankful to God, her family and friends  and said she plans to work in a hospital here in Cebu.
