Eco-friendly market in Mandaue City

By: Norman V. Mendoza June 30,2015 - 07:21 AM

A new eco-friendly public market that will be built on a 15,000-square meter lot at barangay Centrio will be funded with a P400-million budget under the city’s Annual Investment Plan (AIP).

Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes announced this during last week’s public hearing of the Comprehensive Land Use Planning (CLUP) of Mandaue City. He said bidding is now underway.

The market will use solar panels to provide its power needs. A waste treatment facility will also be installed based on “green building architecture,” the mayor said.

Cortes said the abandoned public market behind the Mandaue City Sports Complex will undergo  reevaluation by the city engineering’s office and Office of the Building Official  (OBO).

The building, which was destroyed in the 7.2-magnitude earthquake of 2013, will be developed into a commercial complex.

Stallholders occupy makeshift stalls around and beside the condemned building.
