The Run for Sight Foundation Inc. celebrates its 10th anniversary with the holding of the 10th edition of the University Run of the Cebu Doctors’ University (CDU) on Aug. 23.

Considered one of Cebu’s longest running footraces, the University Run is again dubbed Three Bridge Challenge and will feature 25-kilometer, 13k, 6k and 3k distances. It starts at the CDU campus at the North Reclamation Area in Mandaue City.

Just like previous editions, the 25k route will pass through Cebu’s three iconic bridges—the Marcelo Fernan Bridge, Old Mandaue-Mactan Bridge and the Cansaga Bridge.

Dr. Potenciano “Yong” Larrazabal III of the Run For Sight Foundation Inc. said he is expecting 4,000 runners to join, among them will be CDU students celebrating University Day, which is held every third week of August.

“We started with less than 500 runners until we reached the peak two years ago. But we still continue to innovate to make runners enthusiastic,” said Larrazabal at yesterday’s launching at the Run For Sight Foundation headquarters.

Joining Larrazabal III was his wife Donna, his brother Dr. Philip Larrazabal, race director Joel Juarez of Coco Running, CDU’s Supreme Students Council representative Abegail Vivo, Run For Sight secretary Arnold Choachuy and CDU SAPPRO head Dominic Duja.

“Our key to success is that we are very honest to the runners. We organizers are runners so we understand the needs of the participants,” Larrazabal added.

Meanwhile, finishers in the 25k and 13k category will get an extra finishers medal aside from the regular medal.

Those who have joined and finished in the 25k and 13k distances of the Kawasan Falls Marathon will also get the other half of the finishers medal they got in the Kawasan race.

The race will also not be just about the runners as students manning the water stations can vie for the Best Water Station Award.

Registration fee is pegged at P700 (P850 regular fee) for the 25k, P600 (P750) for the 13k, and P350 and P300 for the 6k and 3k distances, respectively.

Larazzabal advised runners to register early to avail of the early bird rate.

Registration can be done at the Run For Sight Foundation Inc. headquarters at the CDU Hospital along Jones Avenue and at the CDU Campus.
