Village execs want honoraria raise

July 10,2015 - 06:40 AM

A DAY after receiving their honoraria, barangay officials in Cebu City want the city government to double their stipend to P66,000 per barangay.

Raymund Garcia, president of the Barangay Councilors League of the Philippines (BCLP), said it is high time that barangay officials receive bigger incentives for their hard work and service to the public.

“Our barangay officials directly serve our public so they deserve more,” Garcia said during the distribution of incentives to barangay officials at the Cebu City Social Hall yesterday.

Cebu City Councilor Gerardo Carillo agreed, saying he already talked to Mayor Michael Rama about raising the honoraria of barangay officials.

He said Rama was initially apprehensive but after the initial down payment of more than P1 billion it received for the South Road Properties (SRP) lots, the mayor agreed and said it’s about time for barangay officials to receive a bigger incentive.

In his State of the City Address (SOCA) last July 4, Rama also mentioned that he would be increasing the cash incentives for barangay officials “five fold.”
