City disaster management office identifies 10 unsafe structures

AT least 10 buildings in Cebu City are considered in danger of collapsing especially during a powerful earthquake.

Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (CCDRRMO) executive director Simeon Romarate said the buildings are either abandoned, dilapidated, or  gutted by fire like the Old White Gold Club and Tan-Chan Building. He said they have gathered information about the structures and took photos of them.

His report will be submitted to the Office of the Mayor,  the Department of Engineering and Public Works (DEPW) and to the Office of the Building Official (OBO).

He said they will recommend to the engineering department to conduct an inspection to establish the actual status of the buildings.

He said that these structures are not occupied but the fact that these are located near major roads means they pose danger to the public especially during earthquakes.

OBO head Atty. Jose Marie Poblete said they are yet to receive the report and recommendation from the CCDRRMO.

Mayor Mike Rama wants to meet with the owners of the buildings to discuss the matter.
