Eleven trisikad and habal-habal drivers in barangay Poblacion Pardo, Cebu City tested positive for illegal drug use.

Another five also admitted using illegal drugs.

A total of 139 drivers took part in a surprise drug test conducted by Cebu City’s Office for Substance Abuse Prevention (COSAP).

“We requested Cosap to conduct the drug test because we’ve received several complaints from residents that a lot of the drivers are using illegal drugs. We met with the drivers and they agreed to take the test. It’s not mandatory and I’m happy that a lot of the drivers turned up,” said Poblacion Pardo barangay captain Altea Lim.

It was the first time that a drug test was conducted on trisikad and habal-habal drivers in the barangay.

Lim said there were some drivers who didn’t join the test. She said some of those who took part were from barangay Cogon Pardo.

Those who tested positive will be allowed to continue driving, but they will be monitored.

Lim said the barangay will also help the drivers undergo the city government’s outpatient rehabilitation program.

Those who tested negative will be given T-shirts printed with “I am a drug-free driver,” said Lim.
