Fusion and Stay Clean found themselves at the top of the standings in the Architects + Engineers Basketball Association 1st Davies Cup after they bested their respective opponents on Sunday at the Cebu Eastern College gym.

Fusion exacted revenge on Polyfloor, 52-43, while Stay Clean outlasted Aqua Gloss, 102-85.

The two teams now share identical 6-3 win-loss records with one more game to play in the double round-robin elimination round.

The top two teams at the end of this round will get the crucial win-once advantage in the semifinals.

Ed Macasling led Fusion’s attack with 19 points while Niel Benedicto imposed himself down low to come away with a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds.

Julius Orit added 10 points, four steals, three rebounds and three assists.

Polyfloor actually led at halftime, 24-16, but lost control in the third period as Fusion zoomed ahead with a 12-3 blast. Fusion then capped off its dominant second half showing by outscoring its opponents, 24-16, in the final canto.

Polyfloor fell to 5-4 and has to win this weekend versus Aqua Gloss to secure its place in the next round.

Meanwhile, Mike Cinco continued his hot scoring streak as he piled up 38 points in Stay Clean’s pivotal win over the league-worst Aqua Gloss.

Cinco had seven three-pointers in a torrid display of shooting and added 11 rebounds to his name as well to offset Ferdinand Tiro’s 44-point outburst for the losing side.

Acreex also won via forfeiture over Elastogel to forge a tie for fourth place at 4-5.
