Cebu jr triathletes win in Singapore

Four Cebuano junior triathletes flashed their fearsome form by logging podium finishes in the tough Singapore International Triathlon 2015 held yesterday in Singapore.

The foursome included the Chiongbian siblings Yuan and Justin along with Aaliyah Mataragnon and Ralph Eduard So who shone in their respective divisions.

The Chiongbian brothers topped their respective divisions with the younger Yuan ruling the 14-15 age division and Justin dominating the 16-19 age group which was held over a longer route.

Yuan, the defending champion in the overall race of the inaugural Cebu City Triathlon finished the race in 32 minutes and 51 seconds while Justin crossed the finish line in one hour, two minutes and 27 seconds.

Justin’s race route consisted of 750m swim, 18km bike and 5km run while the three younger triathletes’ route consisted of 200m swim, 12k bike and 1.5k run.

Mataragnon, the female overall defending champion of the Cebu City Triathlon, finished third in the 14-15 years old division by clocking 38 minutes and 41 seconds.

Abby Ouwendyk of the USA placed first in the division with a time of 36:55 while Japanese Mayumi Shinozuka came in second in 38:34.

Trailing Yuan at second place was Aaron Kiss with an official time of 34:16 while So rounded off the top three in 35:40.

Justin defeated Bryce Chong who placed second in 1:03.18 and Zacharias Low who came in third with a clocking of 1:05.47 in the 16-19 division.
