Cebu City Hall will be rounding up mendicants and vagrants all over the city this month to mark its annual observance of Anti-Mendicancy Month.

Cebu City Anti-Mendicancy Board executive director Joy Pesquera said they will start the massive roundup of mendicants on August 14 at 10 pm. She said there are 200 mendicants in the city.

They will be temporarily housed at the San Roque Gym where they will be assessed and profiled.

Those that will qualify for the city’s Balik Probinsya program will be accommodated while others will be referred to partner non-government organizations (NGOs) with housing facilities.

Pesquera said they hope to remove all mendicants by the start of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meetings in Cebu this month.
