Fake bills amounting to P8,500 were recovered from a 44-year-old former taxicab driver. He was arrested when he used bogus money to pay the owner of an eatery in sitio Santa Rosa, barangay Poblacion, Alegria town southwestern Cebu.

Police arrested Loreto Sebastian of Talisay City inside a Ceres bus bound for Cebu City near the Alegria Sports Complex last Friday.

Police recovered 4 pieces of counterfeit P1,000 bills and 8 pieces of fake P500 bills from Sebastian.

Sebastian told police that he bought the counterfeit money through telephone in Cebu City but didn’t know the person selling the fake bills. He said he paid P100 for each piece.

Sebastian said he decided to stop at the eatery after he visited  a friend in Malabuyoc town.

Sebastian is detained at the Alegria police station pending the filing of charges for illegal possession and use of false treasury or bank notes and other instruments of credit.
