One dead, 4 hurt in Naga accidents

An 18-year-old man was killed while three others, including a minor and a barangay captain, were injured in three separate vehicular accidents in Naga City, south Cebu last Saturday.

In barangay Langtad, a man died after he was run over by a dump truck while  on his  way to Sibonga last Saturday afternoon.

Police identified the fatality as Anthony Purisima, who was riding a motorcycle driven by his 14-year-old cousin.

Police said the teenager tried to overtake the Daewoo dump truck, which was driven by Homelito Omayao, at an intersection when the teener lost control of the motorcycle, causing the backrider (Purisima) to fall off the motorcycle and land under the dump truck. Purisima was run over by the rear wheel of the truck. The teener was also injured and was brought to the hospital for treatment.

Omayao is detained at the Naga police station pending the filing of reckless imprudence resulting to homicide charge.

Later that night, a 10-year-old girl was injured after she was hit by a motorcycle in barangay Pangdan, also in Naga City, last Saturday.

Police said Belen Manriquez was rushed to the hospital after she was hit by a still unidentified driver of a Suzuki Smash motorcycle with plate number GA55463.

The license plate number was registered to Robert Pantilgan.

When police went to the area, the motorcycle driver had already fled, but they recovered the motorcycle.

In barangay East Poblacion also in Naga, the 60-year-old barangay captain of Cantao-an, Vicente Aruba, and his driver Jeffrey Sasan were rushed to the hospital after figuring in an accident also  last Saturday night.

Police said Sasan, who was driving the motorcycle, tried to overtake a tricycle driven by George Ababa, 49, when he allegedly lost control and rammed an incoming vehicle.
