Host team Hayashi-ha tops 1st Mayor Quiño karatedo

Host team Hayashi-ha Shitoryukai, harvested 18 gold medals to rule last weekend’s First Mayor Joel Quiño Visayas Karatedo Open Championships held at the Compostela Sports Complex in the municipality of Compostela.

Hayashi-ha Shitoryukai karatekas also added six silvers and three bronzes to their haul to grab the overall championship of the one-day tournament.

Cosca Karatedo Team of Dumaguete City finished second with 11 gold medals, 8 silvers and three bronzes while Mount Moriah College of Camotes Island rounded-off the top three squads with eight gold medals, five silvers and three bronzes.

The tournament was organized by Team Hayashi-ha Shitoryukai and the Compostela Sports Commission headed by Mayor Quiño. It attracted 12 competing teams from various karatedo clubs in the Visayas region.
Leading Hayashi-ha’s gold medal haul was headed by its ace karatekas Rafael Vidal and  his sister Rica Faith Vidal who both won three gold medals  in two different categories – kata (form) and kumite (sparring). Their youngest sibling, Ayanna Lein, chipped in two gold medals in her division.

Also winning two golds each were Vincent Resoor, Chelsea Mae Yurag and Jon Gonzales Labra.

The team’s other gold medalists include John Larry Cinco, Chodie Maagi, Sophia Resoor and Ella Tuhoy.

Meanwhile, Hayashi-ha’s head coach, Reynan Vidal announced that his wards are all battle-ready for this September’s Milo Little Olympics Visayas Regional Finals to be held in Iloilo.
