Tips from Cebu’s young entrep of the year

Kaiser

He was 23 years old then, a fresh nursing graduate who was more adept at health care, medical terminologies, and drug dosages, when he was first introduced to construction and real estate industry. Then a reviewee who was preparing for the upcoming board exam, he used to help out in his parents’ construction company to make the most of the free time he had in his hands.

His interest for building sturdy homes for Cebuanos stirred stronger within him until he decided to jumpstart his own real estate company that cater to the needs of low to mid-income earners. Success did not come in handy for the young entrepreneur who only had a handful of knowledge and resources back then on growing such huge a business. But through hardwork, dedication, and faith, it had not been long before his real estate company gained retention in the minds of Cebuanos as a developer that builds quality and affordable houses.

Kaiser Christopher Tan, the man behind Kaiser Urban Development Corporation (Kaiser Estates), has recently been named by the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) as Young Entrepreneur of the Year last June 30 during the Grand Chamber Awards 2015 at Radisson Blu Hotel. Tan is one of the six successful Cebuano entrepreneurs who have received such accolade for exemplifying leadership and perseverance in leading a business that contributed to the economic growth of Cebu.

In a region such as Cebu where real estate industry players are most active and where housing projects are sprouting up like mushrooms everywhere, Tan cited how Kaiser Estates sets itself apart from the rest of these developments. “Kaiser Estate ensures that it creates a positive impact to the society. We don’t only build comfortable houses but Green Houses that Cebuanos deserve. Our houses adopt to environmentally responsible measures: From their designs, construction, operation, and maintenance,” Tan said.

The 30-year-old entrepreneur still has a lot of plans for Kaiser Estates which are all aimed at making the business more robust and at the same time serve the greater Cebuano public. In a matter of months, Kaiser Estates will be venturing into socialized housing developments since there is a strong demand for such in the market. Tan also said that Kaiser will soon become a mother company that will provide more services to the public such as construction, trucking, hauling, as well as financing services.

Indeed, Kaiser Tan’s journey to attaining success wasn’t a walk in the park. So to the aspiring and start-up entrepreneurs especially the young ones out there who desire to tread on the same path he took, here are some take-away lessons from Cebu’s young entrepreneur for 2015. “First and foremost, you must be brave to take risks and work hard to achieve your goals. There will be circumstances ahead that will try to steal your attention from your goals but don’t be distracted by them and be all the more focused. And the most important of all is to have faith in the Lord. This is the number one recipe to success.”
