CCMC gets 15 hospital beds from sister city
The Vriendschapsband Haarlemmermeer-Cebu (VHC) from the city of Haarlemmermeer in The Netherlands formally turned over during their visit 15 hospital beds, bedside tables, cabinets and IV fluid stands worth P1 million to Cebu City Medical Center (CCMC) last Thursday.
The 15 hospital beds are now being used by patients in the Internal Medicine ward.
These hospital beds are part of the 27 beds that will be donated by the group to CCMC. Each hospital bed comes with foldable side rails and adjustable head and foot rests.
The bedside table has a tray for food, a drawer, and a cabinet for storage.
The turnover ceremony was attended by Cebu City Councilor Alvin Dizon, CCMC Administrator Rey Cris Panugaling and VHC board members Peter Janssen, Jan Willem Ittman and Stephan Elst.
Janssen said the money used in obtaining the hospital equipment came from the people of Haarlemmemeer.
He said that after hearing about Supertyphoon Yolanda and the 7.2-magnitude earthquake, people started calling them and inquiring on how to go about sending donations to Cebu City.
“I was here about 10 days after Yolanda and I knew there was an earthquake a month before and that destroyed the whole CCMC building. We, in The Netherlands, collected a lot of money from ordinary people,” he said.
Janssen said they turned over the money to CCMC, whereupon the hospital director and administrator decided to use it for the purchase of hospital beds.
“We are happy with this (equipment),” Janssen said during the turnover.
He said as Cebu City is the sister city of Haarlemmermeer, it was incumbent upon them to lend a helping hand.
