The Coalition for Better Education celebrated its 14th year as an organization last August 8, at the Cebu Grand Convention Centre. Present were close to 150 members of the education group representing various sectors such as the academe, government, NGOs, business, parents, media, students, professional organizations and out-of-school youth. With its theme, “Imagine, Innovate, Inspire”, CBE puts its strategic thrusts on building a network of 21st century individuals who are also envisioned to promote creativity, critical thinking and collaboration in the education arena.
One of the highlights of the affair was the election of three (3) board members representing the government, NGO and media sectors. Elected to office were Paulette Liu, CEO of Primary Structures Educational Foundation (NGO), Dr. Gregorio Cyrus Elejorde, Schools Division Superintendent of Carcar City Division (GOVERNMENT) and Rachelle Nessia, Manager of the Provincial office of the PIA (MEDIA).
In the same event, CBE featured individuals who have achieved fame and success because of education. They are teachers, students and out-of-school youths who have proven that poverty and extreme challenges in life are not hindrances in one’s quest to attain his/her goals in life.
CBE was convened by Roberto Aboitiz, President of RAFI and NGO stalwarts Aboitiz Foundation and PBSP in 2001. The 446-member strong organization has been providing training, research and content development programs for public school teachers as well as pre-service teachers nationwide. It is also active in undertaking events that promote better education in the 21st century setting.
