THE Cebu City Council rejected a motion for reconsideration filed by Digitel Mobile Philippines Inc. (DMPI), operator of Sun Cellular, to reconsider the demolition of their cell sites in barangay Apas.

In rejecting the motion, the council said it has the power to revoke the special permit granted to it and other telecom firms to operate their cell sites in sitio Calvary Hills, barangay Apas in Cebu City.

The council also said local government units (LGUs) are mandated to ensure and promote the health and safety of their constituents.

Sun Cellular tower sites were built in 2004, about four years after Globe Telecom built its towers in the same area.
