Two Velez College graduates in Cebu City landed in the top 10 of the September 2015 Medical Technologist Licensure Examination

Kyle Lorence Guiao Nalo scored a rating of 89.60 percent to land in  7th place while Marc Frederick Sarvida Soco obtained a rating of 89.40 percent to land in 9th place.

Results were released by the Professional Regulations Commission.

Nalo said that when  his friend told him about his ranking, “I thought that it was a joke because sometimes my friends play pranks on me ,” the 21-year old told Cebu Daily News.

Nalo checked the PRC website to verify the results.

“It (result) was really true then I started shaking. I only aimed to pass the exam because it was difficult,” he said.
“I really don’t know how I did it. I just prayed to God to guide me,” Nalo said.

Advice
He enrolled himself in a review center for three months. Nalo also preferred to use photocopied notes to save on buying new textbooks.

What advice does he have for  examinees?

“Avoid procrastination and don’t memorize if you don’t understand the material,”  he said.

A day before the examination, Nalo and his friends visited six churches, one for each subject covered in the licensure examination.

They went to the Chapel of San Pedro Calungsod, Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral, Basilica Minore  del Santo Nino, Saint Joseph Patriach Church, Redemptorist and Carmelites Monastery.

Among the options Nalo is considering so far is to take up a degree in  medicine at the Cebu Institute of Medicine (CIM).

Nalo was in the dean’s list when he graduated at Velez College last May.  He finished his elementary and high school education at the University of San Carlos (USC).  During high school, Nalo graduated with 3rd honorable mention.

Nalo is the eldest of three siblings .  His father is a  marine engineer and his mother is a homemaker.

Nalo said his parents were from Malabuyoc town in southwest Cebu and moved to  barangay Mambaling, Cebu City when he was five years old.
