Globe hosts forum on role of social media in journalism

As part of the recently concluded Press Freedom Week celebration, Globe Telecom hosted a forum for graduating journalism students in Cebu amid growing impact of technology and internet on journalism practice.

More than 200 journalism students from University of the Philippines Visayas, University of San Jose-Recoletos, Southwestern University, Cebu Institute of Technology University, University of the Visayas, Cebu Normal University, St. Theresa’s College and Benedicto College joined the forum, which coincided with the celebration of the Cebu Press Freedom Week.

Entitled “Role of Technology and Social Media in Journalism,” the forum sought to provide relevant insights from journalism and social media practitioners based on their respective professional experiences.

Panelists were past winners of the Globe Media Excellence Awards, which is now on its fourth year, including Ng Khai Development Corp. president and SunStar tech columnist Wilson Ng, Marian Codilla of Cebu Daily News, Mike Lopez of The Freeman, Andrea Pateña of TV5, Kat Cacho of SunStar and Ruben Licera  of INewMedia.
