THE SECOND-SEED Kyocera Frontiers avoided a major upset, getting rid of the seventh-ranked Calltek Trojans, 55-45, to complete the semifinal cast in the EVO League of the 11th City Sports Club-Cebu (CSC-C) E-League for Basketball last Sunday at the CSC-C Gym.
Ariel Ramonito Edera and Winston Stephen Panal lifted the Frontiers in the do-or-die match by firing 15 points each as the Frontiers won their first-ever playoff series to seal a best-of-three semifinal showdown with the Telstra Boomerangs.
The other semifinal encounter will have the rising Author Solutions Inc. (ASI) Hardbacks going up against the top seed Supportsave Dragons.
The Trojans forged a sudden-death duel when they prevailed in their initial encounter, 73-67, but failed to sustain the momentum when they fell behind early in Game 2, 4-11.
