inq 2016 election logoA FAMOUS novelty singer, a retired police official, a law student, a marketing operations manager and a member of a militant group  filed their candidacies for various positions at the Commission on Elections (Comelec) yesterday.

With his slogan “Serbisyo to D Max”, novelty singer Max Surban filed his certificate of candidacy for a City Council seat in Cebu City’s northern district.

Unable to make the cut in Team Rama’s lineup, Surban said he is still supporting them.

If elected, the 76-year-old Surban, a resident of barangay Tejero, said he will prioritize programs that will support Cebuano artists and senior citizens.

He said he wants senior citizens to undergo computer literacy programs.

When asked how he can join the council’s deliberations, Surban cited the case of Provincial Board (PB) Member Julian Daan, who was a famous radio talent that went by the monicker Esteban “Teban” Escudero before he joined politics.

“Kana imo man nang matun-an, daghan man kog mga amigo sama ni Teban (You can learn about it. I have a lot of friends like Teban),” Surban said.

Another radio talent, Allan “Goliat” Nacorda, is running for a council seat in the city’s south district under the Bando Osmeña-Pundok Kauswagan (BO-PK) slate.

Surban is running under the Nacionalista Party of former senator Manny Villar.

Another candidate for the council’s north district, Bayan Muna member German “Arman” Perez, said he will focus on the urban poor, the youth and women sectors if he gets elected.

surbanBO-PK–allied candidates are scheduled to file their certificates of candidacy (COC) today after a 9:30 a.m. Mass at the St. Therese Parish Church in barangay Lahug.

Team Rama will file their COCs tomorrow, Friday, also after a Mass at the Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral.

In Daanbantayan town, retired police official Vicente Loot will run for mayor against incumbent Mayor Augusto Corro who’s affiliated with the Liberal Party (LP) Cebu chapter.

Loot, whose wife Malou Loot was defeated by Corro in the 2013 elections, will run under the Kauswagan sa Norte party that’s affiliated with the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) of Vice President Jejomar Binay.

Two independents—a law student Farid Libre Baena of the University of San Jose-Recoletos and Oscar Manzales, a retired operations manager of Shemberg Marketing, are running for the PB’s 3rd and 4th district seats respectively.
