At least 1,666 passengers were stranded in Cebu City ports because of typhoon Lando, that also caused strong waves in the Visayas.
Trips of small vessels with 250 gross tonnage and below were suspended by the Coast Guard after a gale warning was issued at 5 a.m. by the weather bureau Pagasa.
Pag-asa advised fishermen and small sea crafts not to venture out to in Luzon, Visayas and the eastern seaboard of Mindanao because of strong waves.
As of 2 p.m. the Cebu Coast Guard recorded at least 13 vessels barred from sailing, mostly fast crafts for Tubigon and Tagbilaran City Bohol, Leyte and for Manila.
The Coast Guard reported at least 1,666 persons were stranded at the ports including the 1,260 passengers of MV St. Pope John Paul II of 2Go.
The Manila-bound passenger ship was barred because typhoon Lando is approaching Luzon. The vessel was supposed to depart Pier 5 in Cebu City on Saturday morning.
