Comelec to disqualify 10 former candidates

AT least 10 former candidates will be permanently disqualified from running for public office because they failed  to submit their statement of contributions and expenditures (SOCE).

“The Comelec’s Campaign Finance Unit in Manila came out with 10 names from Cebu who failed to file SOCE for the second time and this has a penalty of perpetual disqualification to hold public office,” Comelec provincial supervisor Lionel Marco Castillano said.

Castillano said Oliveros Kintanar, who previously ran for a seat in the Provincial Board in 2007 and 2010, is the sole violator under the congressional and provincial elective position.

Other names include Alfredo Lanticse, Egdar Pangandoyon, Cristuto Abangan, Cleto Abugan, Manuel Sanchez, Jose Dodjie Abines, Doroteo Geocallo, Antonio Vargas, and Lee Consul who ran for either city or municipal elective posts.

“With due process, the Comelec will file a case against them for perpetual disqualification,” Castillano said.

He said the disqualification also extends to appointments in government posts.

Even if they win in next year’s elections, they will be automatically removed from their office, Castillano said.

“There is no need to file (SOCE) only during barangay elections,” he said.

Castillano also said they expect a large turnout for the last days of voters’ registration. He said they deployed technicians and gave additional laptops to Cebu City.

“There are four voters registration machines in Cebu City and three machines in Lapu-Lapu and Mandaue City,” he said.

He said the machine can accommodate 250 persons for a 12-hour period.
