Carnival rides suspended in Lapu

CARNIVAL rides in Lapu-Lapu City were suspended after Mayor Paz Radaza received reports that the facilities were unsafe for use.

She said an assessment done by the City Engineering Office led by Engr. Alan Pedrigal showed certain defects such as the inadequate foundation for the Ferris wheel.

Pedrigal recommended that the foundation should  be cemented or hardened to keep the Ferris wheel stable.

“We won’t gamble on the safety of the people. That is why we have it checked and it should not operate if no correctional measures are complied with,” Radaza said.

Lapu-Lapu City will be celebrating its annual fiesta on Nov. 21 in honor of Nuestra Señora Virhen de Regla. Carnival rides and other shows began a week ago at the Hoops Dome area and at the City Hall grounds.

Nightly activities are held at the City Auditorium headed by different government departments and sectors. A fluvial procession will be held on Nov. 12 starting at the Marigondon Parish Church for a send-off Mass.

It will be followed by a convoy to Pacific Cebu Resort where motorized boats are waiting and will sail toward the tip of Barangay Punta Engaño to the Mactan Channel.

The vessels will dock at the Muelle Osmeña wharf and return to the Church site.
