5 City Olympics events open today ahead of Nov 11 sked
Five sporting events of the 25th Cebu City Olympics will have their advance playdate starting today until Saturday in various venues around the city.
The five events which will have an advance schedule are boxing, arnis, archery, swimming and taekwondo.
Due to the close schedules between the Cebu City Olympics and the Philippine National Games (PNG), the Department of Education (DepEd) Cebu City Office decided to hold in advance the above mentioned events to allow competing athletes enough time to see action in the PNG which will run from Nov. 8-14 in Aklan.
According to DepEd Cebu City Sports Coordinator Zenaida Gocotano, the official opening of the 25th Cebu City Olympics will be on Nov. 11 while games last until the 15th. The opening ceremonies will be held at the Cebu City Sports Center where the swimming and boxing competitions will be held today.
Swimming will be at the CCSC’s aquatic center while boxing will be at the Team Cebu City Boxing Gym.
Archery will be held at Block 27 in North Reclamation Area (NRC) near SM City Cebu while taekwondo will be at the Zapatera Elementary School gymnasium.
The Ramon Duterte covered court in Guadalupe will host the arnis competitions.
The University of San Carlos-Basic Education (USC-BED) is gunning for its third straight overall championship this year. Last year, the Warriors bagged the overall title with 81 golds, 69 silvers and 61 bronzes in the combined secondary and elementary division tally.
University of Cebu (UC) placed second (59-39-46) while UV finished third (27-11-16).
The winning athletes, teams and schools of the 25th Cebu City Olympics will represent Team Cebu City Ninos in the Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association (CVIRAA) meet to be held in the City of Naga, south Cebu this February. CVIRAA winners will then represent the region in the 2016 Palarong Pambansa in Tuguegarao City.
