CEBU City’s Athena Jon Gara of Southwestern University reigned in the junior girls Taekwondo Poomsae competition yesterday at the Philippine National Games (PNG) in Antique.

For her feat, Gara clinched a spot in the National Championships after beating her rivals from Iloilo City and Antique who settled for the silver and bronze medal, respectively.

Meanwhile, University of San Carlos’ Mark Bugarin automatically secured a spot in the National Championships being the only competitor in the junior boys’ division.

Gara and Bugarin also advanced to the National Finals in the mixed pair category since they have no opponents in the Visayas Qualifying.
