Vendors lose 22 stalls in demolition

AT LEAST 22 roadside stalls along Arellano Boulevard in  Pier 3,  Cebu City were affected in yesterday’s demolition by the Cebu City’s Prevention Restoration Order Beautification Enhancement (PROBE).

The stalls were removed to give way to a road widening project, said officials.

But stall owners complained that City Hall   moved in even if  vendors  had  secured a temporary restraining order from the court where a case is pending.

One PROBE team member told reporters that they just implemented the demolition order  from the mayor’s office.

Jed Jumawan, president of the Port Area Street Traders Association (PASTA), confirmed receiving the  notice of demolition from City Hall last September 30.

He said the vendors got a temporary restraining order on Oct. 24.

After it expired, they  filed an injunction case  which is still pending in court because the  judge  inhibited  himself  due to his close relations with one  association member.
