THE 2ND ROGER Abella Memorial Open Scrabble Tournament spearheaded by the Cebu Scrabble Association (CSA) will be held on Dec. 5 at the Robinsons Place Fuente.

The tournament will be led once again by  Abella’s wife, Marilyn.

Roger Abella, dubbed as the father of scrabble in Cebu, succumbed to liver cancer two years ago. He was inducted into the Cebu Sports Hall of Fame for his efforts to stand out in the sport. He was also a member of the national team that dominated the first Asian chess team competition in the 1970s.

This is the second year of the tournament, which is  sponsored by the Cebu City government. The inaugural season last year had 120 participants.

The tournament has  professional, college, nonprofessional, secondary and elementary categories.
