A book authored by three photographers, two of them Cebuanos, won the Science Category of the 34th National Book Award.
Birds of Cebu and Bohol Philippines, features over 170 full-color photographs of different birds found in Cebu and Bohol.
It also includes graphic illustrations of the relative size of the birds, names, distribution, general description and conservation notes.
The winners of the award were announced last November 12.
“The awarding ceremony will be in Manila on December 5,” said Raul Benjamin Puentespina, a Cebuano bird photographer who shuttles between Cebu and Hong Kong and one of the authors.
Puentespina co-authored the 235-page book with fellow bird photography enthusiasts Nilo Arribas Jr. and Cebu-born Bobby Kintanar.
The first edition of the book was published by the University of San Carlos Press in 2007. The revised and updated edition was launched in April 2014.
The 34th National Book Award is an annual recognition given by the National Book Development Board and the Manila Critics Circle since 1982.
