THAI golfer Supamas Sangchan retained her hold of the Philippine Ladies Open Golf Championship as she romped to the title with a final round score of 73 to win by four over Princess Superal on Friday at the Forest Hills Golf and Country Club in Antipolo.
Sangchan led by just two strokes at the start but got unexpected help from the erratic play of Superal, the 16-year old Southeast Asian Games gold medallist who was touted to be the country’s best chance at nabbing the crown in this tournament.
Superal simply melted down with a triple-bogey on the 5th hole, enabling Sangchan to go up six.
Superal tried to come back with an eagle on the 10th hole but Sangchan was not fazed and shot in pars to seal the win. She finished with an aggregate score of 214 to become the first Thai to win consecutive titles in this competition.
Superal finished with a 75 and 218 overall, to place second.
Daniella Uy struck back with a two-under 70 in another windy day to salvage joint third with Thais Pannarat Thanapoonbolyaras and Sherman Santiwiwattanaphong, who both matched par 72s.
